lyrics

Somehow a precedent was set
That white police could kill black men.
Well it’s a racist culture with racist cause
It’s time we break down all the walls.

We took to the streets, it was time to fight.
We all saw what happened and something’s not right.
“Cops kill when they’re scared,” but this feels like spite.
Let’s all get united, it’s not black and white.

‡You choke me out and I can’t breathe
A breath of air, it’s all I need.
You choke me out and I can’t breathe
If this can happen, we’re not free ‡

But this was our warning; it’s our wakeup call
Our nation divided, we surely will fall.
We don’t want this race war, we just want what’s right.
A chokehold upon us, we’ve got not choice but fight.

An isolated incident
“He’s really sorry,” they repent.
But that man, he died in fear and pain
And things will never be the same.

“But we are not racists,” is what Fox News claims
“That black man was scary, there’s no one to blame.”
Just doing their job, they’re keeping us safe
Unless you are black then you are to blame.

But if we stand together, we’re one and the same
We won’t be divided or be part of their games.
Their hands on our throats we’re gasping for air
A victim by skin tone, it’s truly unfair.

Time for a brand new precedent
FUCK THE POLICE, they’re just angry men.
Stop racist cultures, racist cause
We have to break down all the walls.

It’s tough in these dark times, we lose faith in men
But if we work together the healing begins
No hands on our throats, air passages clear
We make up our own paths and the future is clear

But this was our warning; it’s our wakeup call
This nation divided, we surely will fall
We don’t want a race war, we just want what’s right.
A chokehold upon us, we’ve got not choice but fight.
